The Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), at its 36th session (Riyadh, 9-10 December, 2015), adopted the vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. Subsequently, at its 16th consultative meeting (Jeddah, 31 May, 2016), it was decided to place all Gulf Institutions, Organizations, and Bureaus, including GSO under the umbrella of the GCC General Secretariat and under the supervision of the Ministerial Council and the relevant Ministerial Committees, and to abolish the GSO Board of Directors and its statutes as of 1 January, 2017. Accordingly, the Ministerial Council, at its 143rd session (Riyadh, 17 May, 2017), decided to approve the establishment of a Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs for GCC States, which adopted the internal regulation of GSO.
